MIRI – Sarawakians who have already received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine are set to get a third booster jab next month.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian today said the booster shot will be necessary for those with waning immunity.
“Sarawak looks set to be the first state to administer the third booster jab.
“Studies on the suspected waning immunity of those already fully vaccinated are being done now.
“Very likely, the booster jab will be carried out starting October,” he said in his social media update today.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin yesterday said the waning immunity among the vaccinated is causing a sharp hike in infections and deaths in Sarawak.
In a statement today, the SDMC secretariat stated that Sarawak recorded 3,734 new Covid-19 cases.
Kuching recorded 921 new infections followed by Serian 359, Sibu 338, Bintulu 218, Samarahan 195, Simunjan 150, Miri 148, Mukah 146, Bau 136, Sri Aman 115, Asajaya 113, Saratok 108, Pakan 106 while the remaining districts recorded several dozen cases.
The secretariat also announced five new deaths today.
The deaths involved two men in Kuching aged 75 and 91; a 68-year-old man in Selangau; a 93-year-old woman in Sri Aman and; a 75-year-old man in Simunjan.
The deaths brought the cumulative coronavirus death tally to 607 today. – The Vibes, September 10, 2021
